30 July 2017 | Holiday Inn Express Baruna | Bali, Indonesia

Address: Jl. Wana Segara No.33, Tuban, Kuta, Bali, 80361, Indonesia
Location details: the hotel is adjacent to the Holiday Inn Baruna which is reviewed here.  The hotel is walking distance to the beach and only around ten minutes away from Denpasar airport, depending on traffic.

Arrival: I was welcomed as an IHG member and offered complimentary water bottles and in-room wifi.  The hotel reception area is spacious with a minimalist design.  Apple Mac computers are available for use in the lobby area for those wishing to view maps of the area or check in for onward flights.

The room: I stayed in a standard Queen size room which has all the basic amenities I would expect at a Holiday Inn Express.  The room was clean, bright and spacious but the bathroom seemed quite small in comparison to the room.  The room décor was modern with some interesting artwork both in the rooms and in the hallways.

My room overlooked the front of the hotel, so while there was no view as such it did mean I got a fairly good glimpse of sunset in the evening. For an even better view, head up to the rooftop pool where you can experience panoramic views of the beach at sunset – this was the highlight of the hotel in my opinion.

Services and facilities: Although the rooms were quite basic, they were functional for those only visiting for a day or two or perhaps wanting somewhere close to the airport before an early morning flight.  That said, the hotel has an amazing rooftop area with a pool and outdoor seating which offers great views at sunset.  There are few obstructions from here, whatever direction you look in.  For those with an interest in aviation, you can also see arriving and departing flights as the runway at Denpasar is just South of the hotel.

Summary: This is one of the better Holiday Inn Express hotels I have stayed in.  I booked under the IHG Friends and Family rate for one night which came to around $80 USD.  As this was a ‘buffer’ booking between two other hotels, I just wanted a base from which to explore the local area so wasn’t intending to spend much time in the hotel itself, but ended up loving the rooftop pool area enough to spend my evening there before heading out for drinks.  A great location if you need to be near the airport but would like to be close to the beach and restaurants the night before an early flight.
