Departure: 16:00 (on time)

Check in
British Airways is based at Terminal 5 at Heathrow, where my flight departed from.  As this was a Bank Holiday Monday in the UK, it was a little busier than usual, but perhaps not as busy as the previous week when most people would be heading out of the UK, rather than flying back home.  I used the First check in area at the far end of the terminal, which is available to those travelling in First, or those holding BA Gold cards, or oneworld Emerald status.  This check in facility has the added benefit of leading directly to fast track security, which in turn leads directly into the Galleries First lounge.

As I was just about on time for this flight, I decided to skip past the lounges on this occasion and made my way straight through departures and to the gate.

On board
British Airways operates the Boeing 777-200 aircraft on this route, which is one of my least favourite aircraft for a number of reasons.  I find it is a very old and clunky plane, especially compared to newer aircraft such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the Airbus A350 or the Airbus A380.  This is partly why I chose to fly via Hong Kong on my flight from Bangkok to London a few days ago, so I could fly on the Airbus A380 instead.  On the way back though, I just needed to get back to Bangkok so I could return to work the next day so opted to fly direct to maximise sleep.

That said, the crew on this flight were amazing – some of the best I’ve flown with in fact. They welcomed me on board and directed me to my seat before taking my coat to be placed in the wardrobe.  Pre-departure beverages were offered promptly and then throughout the flight (at least while I was awake).  I opted for seat 1D, as is usual for me on this route, as it has relatively low football and also allows me to exit the plane fairly quickly; it is also useful as meals on BA are usually served from the front, allowing me to make the most of the time I have available to sleep.

The meal served was tasty and well presented; I chose to have the dinner early on and then sleep for the rest of the flight, skipping breakfast.  I arrived into Bangkok the next morning at around 09:30 feeling refreshed and well rested.

Arrival into Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport
The crew distributed fast track arrivals cards on board to everyone travelling in Club World, which was handy as immigration was quite busy on this occasion.  I was able to collect my checked bags within a few minutes of arriving at the baggage belt (priority tagged baggage actually does seem to come off the plane first at Bangkok, unlike at some other airports I have flown to, including London) and made my way home relatively quickly after landing.
